first_img Get the Free eBook! Learn how to sell without a sales manager. Download my free eBook! You need to make sales. You need help now. We’ve got you covered. This eBook will help you Seize Your Sales Destiny, with or without a manager. Download Now A reminder: Sales is a competition. It is a zero sum game. One salesperson wins, another one loses. In some contests, a number of other salespeople lose. Because this is true, selling well requires that you create a preference for you, your solution, and your company. It is your job to discover what you need to do to create that preference and do it.One of the ways you create a preference for you as the salesperson your dream client is going to buy from-and work with to produce better results-is to help them compete.Better Business – Are You Strategic? What do you know that can help your dream client produce better results than they are producing now? What you know can create a preference for you and position you as someone with ideas that will help improve your dream client’s business. If you can translate what you sell to your dream client’s most strategic initiatives, you elevate your status and increase your preference. If what you know ends at your company and your product, creating a preference will be very difficult. Vendors are not a strategic advantage; they’re commodities.Better Fit – Are You Someone I Want to Do Business With?Napoleon Hill wrote a book called Think and Grow Rich. In that book he suggested that successful people have a pleasing personality. Read: Likable. This idea isn’t popular in the age of insight, but popular or not, people still want to do business with people they know and like. It very much matters the container in which the insights and ideas are delivered. If this strikes you as “relationship selling,” then you should know that economic value and relationships are not mutually exclusive. You can possess deep business acumen and serious chops and still have excellent commercial relationships.Your job is to create a preference, and you are increasingly a bigger part of that value proposition.Better Salesmanship – Are You Creating Value for Me?Your sales process doesn’t mention the word “preference.” Neither do any of the methodologies you might have bolted on to your sales process. Regardless of the absence of the word, the intention needs to be there. You have to ensure that the intention to create value exists during every interaction you have with your dream client. The more valuable they find the time they spend with you, the greater the preference you create. The more you help them understand their world, develop a compelling case for change and a vision of the future, identify possibilities and understand trade-offs, and resolve their concerns, the more you look like the right partner. How you sell will determine whether or not you are a vendor or a strategic partner. Being a better salesperson helps you create a greater preference.last_img read more

Ex-MLA’s ‘missing’ daughter loses contact with lawyer

first_imgTwo days after a video surfaced on social media showing the daughter of a former BJP MLA, missing for a week, alleging torture by her father, her lawyer lost touch with her.“As I am unable to reach her, I can’t get instructions on what to do next,” said Ankit Saxena, the lawyer who had moved the High Court on her behalf seeking protection for her. The hearing is on October 31. The former MLA from Bhopal Central, Surendra Nath Singh, on Monday told The Hindu that the whereabouts of his daughter Bharti Singh were known. “We applied pressure and the girl has been found,” he said. On October 16, Mr. Singh filed a complaint with the police claiming his “mentally ill” daughter had gone missing. A day later, she approached Mr. Saxena through mutual friends requesting him to seek protection for her, and three-four friends, lest they be intimidated by the family.Ms. Singh had been in a relationship with a Bhopal-based man of another faith, said Mr. Saxena. “She was called back home by the family from Pune, where she was pursuing a nutrition course, on the pretext of her mother’s illness. Upon return, she was forcibly told to marry the son of another BJP leader,” he added.last_img read more

Premier calls for Planning Dept to assess homes in Millennium Heights

first_imgFacebook Twitter Google+LinkedInPinterestWhatsAppProvidenciales, TCI, July 6, 2016 – Three weeks ago the Premier said he asked planning to go to Millennium Heights to see what is going on in the community which has unleashed a barrage of complaints to media and the public about construction, environmental and financial stresses they have been forced to endure for years because of short cuts and shoddy construction by Priton Development. The country’s leader explained to Magnetic Media via WhatsApp that it was nearly a month ago that he, and I quote him now,  “I have instructed the Minister for Planning and the Planning Department via the minister to inspect the situation with respect to the sink holes in phase two and this was supposedly done.”  He continued with, “I have again followed up with them yesterday and requested that whatever assessment is required that attention be paid and executed.” The statement also says, that the Minister would say something today, but Minister Amanda Missick has not said anything up to news production time.  We asked the Premier about the mold, as he is the Minister of Health; Hon Dr Rufus Ewing said he had not heard of the mold problem but referred residents to the Environmental Health Department Director for evaluation.Magnetic Media has learned that the EHD has already condemned one house and that may lead to litigation.  Meanwhile, also silent so far is Priton Development, the contractors given not one or two but three tracts of Crown Land to build what can only be described so far as subpar houses.  The beleaguered homeowners in Millennium Heights have taken some comfort in the words of the Premier; who also said much of the owness has to be place on the builders as Planning Department aims to determine if there is something wrong with the construction method. This may be too little too late, as many of the buyers of the Priton homes are distrustful of the Planning Department, which they believe should have ensured at the onset, the house constructions were up to standard before issuing hundreds of move in certificates. No new tax laws in 10 years

first_imgDespite its compulsion to raise revenue earning, the government has in the past decade not been able to modernise tax-related laws.Official documents show, none of the new laws on value added tax (VAT), customs and income tax, that were initiated in 2009, the year the Awami League assumed office, has been made effective. As a result, the tax authorities have to abide by the old laws and system in collecting and increasing the revenue. The National Board of Revenue (NBR) is still using the law that was enacted in 1991 to collect VAT from the businessmen. The new VAT law, enacted in 2012, was scheduled to make its journey in July 2017. The deadline was, however, deferred by two years in the face of resistance from the business community. As per the new deadline, it is scheduled to come into force in July next.Asked about the matter, former caretaker government’s finance adviser AB Mirza Azizul Islam said the amendment to a law should begin at the beginning of a government’s tenure. He said if a law is planned to be made effective at the end of a regime, it creates unwanted situation for the government.“The law is not enough, its full execution is a must,” he added. Many of the taxable people, Mirza Aziz added, are evading VAT while there are nowadays many people in the villages who earn more than Tk 250,000 in a financial year.“Initiatives must be taken to bring them under the tax net.”The target of the revenue has increased by six and half times in the past 10 years.According to NBR, in the fiscal 2009-10, it was given a target of earning revenue amounting to Tk 610 billion, which has been raised to Tk 3,000 billion in the current fiscal year.In 2017, businesspeople protested and demanded separate VAT charges instead of a unified slab of 15 per cent VAT for all. The government backtracked on the deadline. The NBR too did nothing in this regard in the past one and half years. The authorities have not yet fixed the amendable areas in the new VAT law. The NBR just served a notice to the commissioners in this regard in the past month. Also, it requested two universities and a research firm to survey the possible impact of the new VAT law.Under the circumstances, the NBR will get only five months to complete the entire process.NBR member Rezaul Hasan, however, expressed confidence that the revenue board will be able to implement the law in due time.“We’re ready to implement the new law. When the law was introduced in 2017, the businessmen were not ready to comply with the it as they do not have the appropriate software to regulate the VAT payment system. We’ve already directed them in this regard. If they fail to do so this time around, it’s their own fault,” he said. The NBR has in the meantime started redrafting the customs law in 2012.Upon completion of other formalities, the authorities were supposed to execute the new customs law in July 2018, according to officials concerned. The draft law was approved by the cabinet last year but not rubberstamped by parliament. The law might be raised in parliament during the next budget session. The country is currently using the customs law of 1969.The income tax law is also quite old — the one made in 1984.The NBR decided to amend the law 10 years ago. In the meantime, the authorities have just drafted English version of the new law. They are now planning to make it in Bangla, officials said.NBR officials said the final draft of the law would be sent to the cabinet division before the next budget session. If enacted in due time, the NBR is planning to implement the new law in the fiscal 2020-21.“We want the new government to implement new VAT, tax and customs law as soon as possible,” said former president of Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry Abul Kashem Khan.He said there would be multi tiers in the new VAT law as per demand of the business community. The laws on customs and income tax, he added, must also have reflections of recommendations made by the businesspeople and the new laws must ensure hassle-free tax payment and business transactions.* This report, originally published in Prothom Alo print edition, has been rewritten in English by Toriqul Islamlast_img read more
