Premier calls for Planning Dept to assess homes in Millennium Heights

first_imgFacebook Twitter Google+LinkedInPinterestWhatsAppProvidenciales, TCI, July 6, 2016 – Three weeks ago the Premier said he asked planning to go to Millennium Heights to see what is going on in the community which has unleashed a barrage of complaints to media and the public about construction, environmental and financial stresses they have been forced to endure for years because of short cuts and shoddy construction by Priton Development. The country’s leader explained to Magnetic Media via WhatsApp that it was nearly a month ago that he, and I quote him now,  “I have instructed the Minister for Planning and the Planning Department via the minister to inspect the situation with respect to the sink holes in phase two and this was supposedly done.”  He continued with, “I have again followed up with them yesterday and requested that whatever assessment is required that attention be paid and executed.” The statement also says, that the Minister would say something today, but Minister Amanda Missick has not said anything up to news production time.  We asked the Premier about the mold, as he is the Minister of Health; Hon Dr Rufus Ewing said he had not heard of the mold problem but referred residents to the Environmental Health Department Director for evaluation.Magnetic Media has learned that the EHD has already condemned one house and that may lead to litigation.  Meanwhile, also silent so far is Priton Development, the contractors given not one or two but three tracts of Crown Land to build what can only be described so far as subpar houses.  The beleaguered homeowners in Millennium Heights have taken some comfort in the words of the Premier; who also said much of the owness has to be place on the builders as Planning Department aims to determine if there is something wrong with the construction method.This may be too little too late, as many of the buyers of the Priton homes are distrustful of the Planning Department, which they believe should have ensured at the onset, the house constructions were up to standard before issuing hundreds of move in certificates. They detail their work in a new study published this week in Environmental Science & Technology. The scientists added benzene or chloroform gas to modified and non-modified plants in glass tubes. Australia road crash kills 3 Bangladeshis

first_imgRoad Accident logoAt least three Bangladeshi nationals were killed on Saturday in a road accident at Kakadu Highway in Darwin, the capital city of Northern Territory of Australia.The accident took place at 12.30pm on Saturday, reports news agency UNB quoting ABC News.Seven young people – all believed to be members of the Top End’s Bangladeshi student community – were travelling from Jabiru to Cooinda in a Toyota Landcruiser on Saturday afternoon when it crashed on the Kakadu Highway.Four women were injured in the crash and are in a stable condition in Royal Darwin hospital, the report said.NT police acting assistant commissioner commander Tony Fuller said the accident occurred when the 29-year-old driver lost control on a large, sweeping bend.Two of the injured people might have limbs amputated, and another had a severe head injury, police said.“The two rear passengers were able to escape, the driver and front passenger were unable to escape, and they have died at the scene,” police said.last_img read more

Liquor stores outside of my area say they aren’t able to send their products to me. I would also enjoy joining out-of-state wine clubs, but they can’t send me their merchandise. What is the issue?Texas liquor laws are infamously complex, and the reason dates back to the end of Prohibition.That was when states began creating their own regulatory structures to administer the production and sale of alcohol — and when Texas, in an effort to stop manufacturers from cozying up to retailers, opted for a system that separates the process into three tiers:Manufacturers that make the product — wineries, breweries and distilleries.Wholesalers and distributors that buy from manufacturers and sell it to retailers.Retailers that sell the product to consumers.Texas law — specifically, the Alcoholic Beverage Code — only allows businesses with an appropriate permit to sell alcohol to consumers. So if you want to buy booze, you need to get it from a retailer (e.g., a grocery store, convenience store, bar or restaurant).The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission oversees all three tiers — and issues separate permits and licenses for each. This is where the confusion starts.Only TABC-licensed carriers can transport alcohol, and only permitted businesses — including those out of state — can sell alcohol to Texas consumers. Without a permit, liquor can’t be shipped directly to Texas consumers, and there currently is no permit that would allow out-of-state liquor stores to sell products directly to Texas consumers.Here are some of the licenses and permits that stores, carriers and manufacturers need to move booze into and around the state:To ship alcohol into, out of or within Texas, businesses must have a carrier’s permit.Licensed wineries in Texas may ship their products to people in the state.Stores that want to make deliveries within their city limits need a local cartage permit. TABC spokesman Chris Porter said most stores have this permit because it allows them to transport alcohol within a city, both to customers and between store locations.Legally, distilled spirits can’t be shipped from a store to a Texas consumer who lives outside of the city where the store is located — instead, they have to be shipped from a package store in the same county as the consumer, said Dick Wills, the CEO of the Gerald Franklin Agency, a liquor licensing business.If a company has multiple liquor stores in cities around the state, each of those stores could deliver liquor to customers living in the cities where the stores are located.“The company could accept orders online, then forward the order to one of their stores in the customer’s city, which would then fulfill the order and deliver the product to the customer,” Porter said.So what about those out-of-state wine clubs?“The wine clubs likely don’t have a TABC out-of-state winery direct shipper’s permit, as that would be required to ship wine directly to consumers in Texas,” Porter said. “Most wine clubs would fall into the category of ‘retailer,’ and there’s no law which allows an out-of-state retailer to ship alcoholic beverages directly to Texas consumers.”For any other out-of-state liquor manufacturer that wants its product in the hands of Texans, a nonresident manufacturer’s license allows them to sell products to Texas distributors that, in turn, sell to Texas customers.Another thing to note: Alcohol cannot be shipped via the U.S. Postal Service. Only TABC-licensed common carriers, which includes most commercial shipping companies, can ship alcohol.The bottom line: Legally, distilled spirits can’t be shipped directly to Texas consumers. They have to be shipped from a package store in the county you live in. Regenerative medicineThough it may sound like science fiction, doctors are already producing made-to-order body parts. To get started, doctors scrape cells off the body part in question and grow them in a petri dish. In time, the body part grows strong enough that it can be implanted inside the patient.One company, Organovo, has developed a printer capable of 3D printing body parts. In time, this new technology will become increasingly mainstream, providing patients with lifesaving organ replacements.6. Driverless vehiclesAutomakers like Tesla, General Motors and Volvo have already developed semi-autonomous vehicles. But self-driving technology is rapidly evolving. General Motors announced that it will launch a car that has no steering wheel or pedals by 2019.Uber, meanwhile, is leading the push for pilotless flying vehicles, and has teamed up with NASA to develop an air-traffic-control system. Uber is also working with aircraft manufacturers to develop prototypes, with the intention of launching a beta program in 2020.7. Reusable rocketsOne of the costliest aspects of space exploration is the building of sophisticated and powerful rockets capable of transporting thousands of pounds of equipment into space. The fact that we have figured out how to land rockets — even the large ones used to launch the Falcon Heavy — will help to reduce the cost of space travel.8. CryptocurrencyAt one point this year, Bitcoin was worth more than $19,000 per coin, and while the value of the cryptocurrency has since declined, a single coin is still worth thousands of dollars.Cryptocurrency may be controversial today, but it has steadily become increasingly mainstream. Some of the largest hedge funds are betting on Bitcoin — which is just the beginning of a cryptocurrency revolution.Platforms like TrustToken are poised to connect the global trading power of blockchains with real-world assets.
