first_imgKiribatiPacificTAKtourism organisations A new tourism organisation, Tourism Authority of Kiribati (TAK), was established on 10 June 2019, to represent the “least discovered gem of the Pacific, Kiribati.The 33 islands of the Republic of Kiribati (pronounced Kiribas) are situated at the heart of the Pacific Ocean where the Equator and International Date Line meet. Scattered across the central Pacific, Kiribati is the only country in the world that is positioned on all four hemispheres of the Earth – northern, southern, eastern and western.The establishment of TAK is part of the government’s 20-year vision (KV20) which recognises tourism as a potential contributor towards stimulating economic development, promoting employment, income generation, as well as supporting the retention of cultural traditions, sustainable management of national environmental assets and wider contribution towards socio-economic benefits. TAK is a state-owned enterprise of the Government of the Republic of Kiribati, tasked with the responsibility of promoting and encouraging tourism into the island nation, driving and promoting human resource development programs in the tourism sector, managing and monitoring tourism product development initiatives, and the implementing tourism related fees and levies and as well as strengthening minimum operational standards for tourism operations throughout the country. TAK will also be one of the primary advisory organisations for tourism to Government.Kiribati is a friendly and peaceful destination for travellers passionate about discovering and exploring, and one that enjoys an off the beaten track experience.
